Launch Date:

January 2012

Technologies:

  • iOS
  • JavaScript
  • Google Web Toolkit
  • HTML
  • CSS

My Roles on the Project:

  • HTML/CSS Developer
  • Interactive Developer

My Contributions to the Project

  • Implemented HTML/CSS designs
  • Implemented the interactive in JavaScript using Google Web Toolkit
  • Integrated a 360-degree object rotation module and assisted in porting it for use in the iPad app
  • Integrated a zoomable image interactive module for image enlargements
  • Planned and implemented the software architecture of the interactive to allow for independent content development and management in XML files

Thamtech worked with Terra Incognita’s designers and an iPad developer to create this online companion to a heavily-trafficked museum exhibition.

360-Degree Full Rotation: The 360-degree rotation interactive module integrated into The Life of Art was previously developed and featured in the Vero Beach Museum of Art Viewpoints Website. The newer version used in The Life of Art includes the capability of overlaying clickable points of interest and labels. The points, once configured with the proper set of parameters, track the object as it is being rotated. The interactive uses a mathematical model of the point’s 2D path without content creators having to specify x/y coordinates for every possible frame.

Zoomable Image Interactive: The zoomable image interactive module integrated into The Life of Art for image enlargements was previously developed as a prototype for a mobile Android app. This module allows the user to zoom and pan the high-resolution image. The module uses a single high-resolution image file, so content creators do not have to do any special preprocessing like generating Zoomify or Deep Zoom image sets.

iPad App: A parallel project developed a native iPad version of the interactive for use on iPad kiosks in a heavily-trafficked museum setting and a downloadable version iPad app in the iTunes store.
